Husqvarna 701

The 701 was different to the KTM 690 from 2016-2020. From 2020 on the suspension is shared with the 690R

The Husqvarna 701 had WP 4CS forks from 2016-2018, then a 2nd generation of 4CS in 2019 before coming into line with the 690R in 2020.

We have been "adventurising" them since they came out and we know exactly what to do if you want a nice handling 701 that will take you anywhere.

Rottweiler Performance in the USA have done a great story of building their Omega Rally 701.
They use an aftermarket Tractive KTM 690R Shock in place of the Husky original, which we can do if your really want, but we can get stellar results out of the OEM shock absorber.

Husqvarna 701 Forks

Husqvarna equipped the 701 with the WP 4CS fork from 2016-2019, and it works quite well. It's a closed cartridge fork, hence the name, 4 Chamber System. Stock fork springs are 5.2N, but we offer plenty of rates in our own Teknik 43.8-465 Series Fork Springs or in HiCalibre 19-210 Series Fork Springs.

The stock fork is OK for many riders, but can feel too soft or too firm, depending on what you do with it and what you expect. We can change settings for any application.

For 2020 on we can use the Xplor upgrade kit for faster riders and extend the travel if required. See chart below.

All the 250mm and 275mm travel forks can be converted to 300mm. See chart below for the EXC parts you require. The Rods from the 2012-2013 model that enabled 275mm have been discontinued by WP

Husqvarna 701 Shock

The KTM and Husqvarna have often shared a bunch of suspension components over the years, but the WP rear shock absorber on the 701 is quite different to the KTM 690.

  • 275mm of travel 2016-2019 compared to the 250mm of the 2019- 690R. 2020- 701 is 250mm
  • The stock shock spring is a 69N against an 80N in the early 690
  • 701 spring preload collar is plastic with a different thread to the 690. now identical from 2020 on

We do suggest the use of an X-Trig Spring Preload Adjuster on the 701, because as you can see from the pic of the X-Trig installed, it's hard to access the collars and you tend to make a mess of the stock plastic collars with tools and a punch. Makes things a whole lot easier to adjust the preload on the 20-053 Series Shock Spring between that spider web of a trellis frame.
