Motorcycle Shock Spring Retainer & Bump Stop Parts

At the bottom end of a motorbike's shock absorber there needs to be a way to attach the coil spring to the shock shaft - and this assembly needs to hold the bottoming rubber safely in place too.

A holder cup around the main shaft holds the conical bumper, with a spring lock ring (shaped like a big c-clip) sat on top to retain the spring and keep it concentric around the damper. See our article on replacing shock springs for a better idea.

Many shocks include a spring perch seat on top of the locking clip for evenly distributed pressure, which can act as a spacer washer to adjust preload too - learn more about spring rate, preload & sag. Check out our shock spring hardware section too - some spacers can go at either end of the spring.
