Motorcycle Shock Absorber Rebuild Kits

Some basic factory coilovers are not designed to be rebuilt - see our FAQ on shock rebuilding for more info - but when most motorbike shock absorber components are worn out, you can rebuild them yourself with the range of overhaul kits available from Teknik Motorsports. We stock genuine KYB, Showa & WP shock servicing sets that include the normal consumables inside a shock absorber, including a gas bladder, seal head, bumper, piston band and rubber o-rings.

Damage or oil leaks are an obvious sign, but if your bike is constantly clunking over bumps or still bouncing around for a while after an impact, it's still time to inspect, test and repair. Anything rubber eventually perishes and splits or crumbles, bushings get scored and slowly grind beyond tolerances putting more side load on other internals, oil breaks down and needs changing. If your damper has been leaking for too long then an oil change won't help - the extra heat and wear from metal on metal friction will have turned your expensive suspension parts to scrap.

If you really punish your bike with serious off road riding, make sure your service intervals are even shorter. Don't forget your shock links either - if the damping is ok but the rear suspension feels stiff or sticky or crunchy, try servicing your linkage bearings.

It is not just about a comfortable ride either, there is also a range of other issues that failing dampers can cause. Rattling other motorcycle parts, stressing bolts and brackets, wearing tyres and reducing their life. Increased performance, stability, responsiveness, handling and cornering - better acceleration and braking - a lot of it comes from more predictability. If you are confident your bike can take it, you can push it much harder and faster. Riding on uneven roadwork-riddled tarmac and potholed back roads gets smoother, and unstable dirt ruts and loose gravel on trails grip harder.

Maintaining your OEM rear shocks is made easier with our DIY consumables - they come as complete packs. Don't forget to regas your shock after fixing it - see our regassing tools or we can try to fit you into our busy suspension workshop. Teknik Motorsports can provide everything you need to repair your motorbike including workshop manuals, special suspension tools, individual parts and full assemblies.
